Brown Hairstreak butterfly at Wildwood, Cranleigh

Over half of the 33 ponds at Wildwood are suitable for viewing odonata, including Willow Emerald & Small Red-eyed Damselflies, with 23 Odonata species so far recorded. Joint trip with Butterfly Conservation Surrey Branch. Last year we saw six Brown Hairstreak butterflies.

Boots, lunch, close-focusing binoculars. Booking is not required. If bad weather a postponement notice will be posted on BC Surrey branch website.
Additional Info
The golf course was abandoned in 2017 and is reverting to woodland with ponds. In due course it will doubtless be subject to planning applications.
Meet
10 miles SE of Guildford at GU6 8JR, TQ 0481 3606. From A281 Horsham Rd, turn east into Wildwood Lane (note signpost for Cranleigh Rugby Club); after 500y (passing Rugby Club on left), turn right into the parking area.
