Brown Hairstreak butterfly at Wildwood, Cranleigh

Over half of the 33 ponds at Wildwood are suitable for viewing odonata, including Willow Emerald & Small Red-eyed Damselflies, with 23 Odonata species so far recorded. Joint trip with Butterfly Conservation Surrey Branch. Last year we saw six Brown Hairstreak butterflies.

Requirements: Boots, lunch, close-focusing binoculars. Booking is not required. If bad weather a postponement notice will be posted on BC Surrey branch website.
Additional Info: The golf course was abandoned in 2017 and is reverting to woodland with ponds. In due course it will doubtless be subject to planning applications.
Meet: 10 miles SE of Guildford at GU6 8JR, TQ 0481 3606. From A281 Horsham Rd, turn east into Wildwood Lane (note signpost for Cranleigh Rugby Club); after 500y (passing Rugby Club on left), turn right into the parking area.
