Cosmeston Lakes Country Park (Vale of Glamorgan)
This is a large country park which is also designated as a Local Nature Reserve. It has a variety of habitats including 2 flooded quarries as well as a brook, reedbed and 5 smaller ponds, including the dragonfly pond. Cosmeston Lakes are designated as a SSSI because they contain a rare plant called Starry stonewort. There have been 15 species of dragonfly and 8 species of damselfly seen here.
There is free entry to the park which also includes a medieval village. There is parking, a visitor centre, toilets and access for wheelchairs with assistance and pushchairs. The park is 5 miles west of Cardiff (15 minutes drive from M4 J33), the entrance is on the B4267.
