Britain’s Dragonflies Need You: Help Us Reach £50,000
Help us protect dragonflies and the wetlands they depend on for generations to come.
Today we’re launching our Help Dragonflies Thrive fundraising campaign, with an ambitious goal of raising £50,000 to support the future of dragonfly conservation across the UK.
And we need your help.
Our team may be smaller, but our ambition has never been greater
Like many charities, the British Dragonfly Society has faced challenging financial times. Rising costs and a difficult fundraising climate have meant we’ve had to make some incredibly difficult decisions, including reducing our staff team.
But we haven’t lost our ambition for dragonflies. If anything, our plans for the future are bigger than ever.
We want to restore more wetlands, protect threatened species, train the next generation of dragonfly recorders and conservationists, and inspire more people to discover and care about these remarkable insects.
With your support, we can turn those plans into action.
Why dragonflies matter
Dragonflies have been around for more than 300 million years – long before dinosaurs walked the Earth.
Today, however, many of the wetlands they depend on are under pressure. Across the UK, habitats are being lost or degraded, putting some of our most spectacular dragonflies and damselflies at risk.
But there is hope.
Dragonflies are closely connected to the health of the wetlands where they live. When we create and restore the right habitats, dragonflies can respond remarkably quickly.
And when we protect wetlands for dragonflies, we’re helping much more than dragonflies.
Healthy wetlands provide homes for countless species, help store carbon, can reduce flooding and give people valuable places to connect with nature and improve their wellbeing.
By helping dragonflies thrive, we’re helping wetlands thrive too.
What will your donation support?
Every donation to our campaign will help us continue our work for dragonflies and the wetlands they depend on.
Depending on how much we raise, your support could help us:
🌿 Restore and improve habitats where dragonflies can breed and thrive.
🔎 Train volunteers and recorders to identify and monitor dragonflies, building the knowledge we need to understand and protect their populations.
🌱 Inspire young people through our Youth Panel, events, education and community projects.
🐉 Protect threatened species through practical conservation work and partnerships across the UK.
💧 Help people create wildlife-friendly ponds and wetlands of their own, giving dragonflies more places to thrive.
Every donation counts
You don’t need to make a huge donation to make a difference.
£15 could fund a Youth Membership, giving a young person their first real connection with dragonflies and wetlands and helping inspire the next generation of conservationists.
£50 could help support volunteer training, giving people the skills and confidence to identify and record dragonflies.
£100 could help us deliver a dragonfly walk or identification workshop, introducing more people to these incredible insects.
And larger gifts could help us take on bigger projects – from restoring important wetland habitats to supporting targeted conservation work for threatened species.
