Congratulations to Mark Tyrrell, winner of the Variable Damselfly Photography Competition!

This summer, the BDS ran a competition asking photographers to send in their best images of Variable Damselflies (Coenagrion pulchellum) egg laying. This competition aimed to learn more about the species’ oviposition site selection. Mark’s photo shows a female egg laying into a rotting plant stem; the species appears to use a range of living and decomposing plant species.
