Protect Insects from Pesticides- sign the petition
25/11/2024
Ask British Sugar to help more farmers go neonic-free.
Due to their environmental impact, neonicotinoids pesticides were banned for outdoor use in the UK in 2018. Yet the UK Government approved ‘emergency authorisations’ for the use of the toxic neonicotinoid, thiamethoxam, on sugar beet in 2024, against the advice of the Health and Safety Executive and the Expert Committee on Pesticides.
Neonicotinoid are pesticides that are particularly toxic to bees; however, they also have a detrimental impact on aquatic insect communities when run-off from agricultural land enters our waterways.
As a result, the Wildlife Trust and Greenpeace are both running petitions to stop the use of Thiamethoxam in 2025.
