More evidence of toxic pet flea treatment chemicals at ‘damaging’ levels in rivers

A new study finds evidence that toxic pet flea treatment chemicals are widespread in Welsh rivers and harming wildlife.
The chemicals were detected in over three-quarters of the samples that were taken from 62 different locations on nine rivers (over three years). Concentrations of the chemicals were sometimes up to 45 times above safe levels, with the situation shown to be killing aquatic insects.
Pet owners are now urged to take a more “risk-based approach” and to discuss different options, like tablet treatment, with their vet.
