Great Traston Meadows (Gwent)

This is a grazing marsh with several reens (ditches) that have been opened up.  As well as dragonflies, the reserve is also home to otters, southern marsh orchids and several bird species.

The reserve is open all year and accessible to the public with a circular walk which takes about 30 minutes to complete.  The entrance of the reserve is on Nash Road, in Newport, South Wales.  When you have driven past Pye Corner (on your left), follow Nash road looking out for a white house on your right called Fair Orchard. Drive on a bit further around the bend and the reserve entrance is a wooden gate on the right. There is limited parking to the side of the gate to the reserve. The Wales Coastal path also runs through the reserve should you wish to walk to the site.
