Habitat

Still, shallow, waters; will tolerate brackish conditions. Seems to favour dune slacks and other coastal sites in our area, though has occurred inland.

Status & Distribution

First recorded in Britain in 2002, since when it has colonised a few sites in the south and east of England.

Similar Species

May be confused with other Emerald species.

Southern Emerald Damselfly can be distinguish by its:

  • Two-toned pterostigma (wing spots).
  • Broad pale antehumeral stripes on the back of the thorax.
  • No blue colouration.
