- Various species at Fingringhoe Wick
Fingringhoe Wick Reserve, Colchester. 3 Hairy Dragonfly, 2 Four-spotted Chaser, 8 Large Red, 2 Blue-tailed, 5 'Blues' (Common/Azure) – 1 pair in tanden and laying eggs. Warm sunny day, slight breeze.

A male Downy Emerald at my local pond plus 1 adult Emperor and 5 immature Emperors disturbed in the grass surrounding nearby ponds.
- 2 Broad Bodied Chasers (male and female), 1 Beautiful Demoiselle (female), 30 plus Large Red Damselflies
Present adjacent to Puttles Bridge Car Park, New Forest in and around the various seepages .
- Scarce Chaser emergence at Exminster Marshes, Devon
While waiting for a car to pass on the railway bridge at Swan's Nest, Exminster Marshes, a teneral Scarce Chaser fluttered in the hedge right next to us! Also both mature and emergent Red-eyed Damselflies were nearby along Exeter Canal, and Hairy Dragonfly and lots of Azure Damselflies on the Marshes.

- Emperor Dragonfly and damselflies at East India Dock
A male Emperor Dragonfly, several Red-eyed Damselflies including a couple of pairs in cop, 1 male Blue-tailed Damselfly and several Common Blue or Azure Damselflies (didn't get a good look at any of them to be sure which) at the pond on Saffron Avenue, London E14.
Two female Beautiful Dems on the Tove at Greens Norton today.

- Bovey Heathfield DWT Reserve sightings
I checked the pond at Bovey Heathfield where the Vagrant Emperors were last autumn, to see if any had emerged. I was surprised to find 3 emperor exuviae almost immediately. However, they were suspiciously big and nearby was an emerged Emperor (imperator) that took its maiden flight. Oh well. They probably spent the winter eating Vagrant Emperor larvae! Also exciting was a territorial Hairy Dragonfly, the first record for the site. Large Red Damselflies were egg-laying and a couple of Azure Damselflies were also present. A male Broad-bodied Chaser was at one of the other ponds.

Went to Paxton Pits today mostly sunny and warm and saw 1 immature Scarce Chaser,good numbers of Banded Demoiselle, and 1 Azure Damselfly

- Scarce Chasers back at Caen Hill Locks, Devizes!
Phil Smith reported [and photographed] 3 Scarce Chasers (Libellula fulva) on the turning ponds of the Caen Hill flight of locks on the Kennet and Avon Canal in Devizes. This is the first time they've been seen there since the previous [and first] time in 2008! All were teneral so still unsure as to whether they bred there or have come up from the Bristol Avon, a few miles away, to mature.

Several 4-spot chasers and Hairy Dragonflies at North Cove reserve near Beccles. Also had a glimpse of ?A. isosceles and was shown photos of one taken earlier today. Fleeting view of L. fulva. Will revisit later this week.
Lovely fresh Scarce Chasers at Titchmarsh NR today. Also 2 Broad Bodied Chaser, 5 Hairy Dragonfly, hundreds of Banded Dems. Damsels in sbundance too, Large Red. Azure, Common, Blue Tail, Blue Tail and Red Eye.

- Seven species
A noon-time visit to Glottenham Ponds, Robertsbridge today. Saw plenty of large red damselflies including one ovipositing pair. Many large reds hunting at tops of large bushes as well. Also plenty of fully-coloured azure damselflies with a pair ovipositing. Blue-tailed damselfy and broad-bodied chaser were first of year for the site. At least one hairy hawker present and a beautiful demoiselle. A mature male downy emerald patrolling a stretch of shoreline, hovered for a while immediately in front of us, giving very good views.
River Yare, Cringleford, Norwich. With a big improvement in the weather today, Hairy Hawkers were active along their favoured ditches. Two males and two females, one female was ovipositing. Many tandem pairs of Large-reds and a good number of immature Azure damselflies, Banded Demoiselles increasing their numbers daily.

On 14 May, I had a very good view of a male Downy Emerald resting on a branch at Buchan Park on a tree adjacent to 'The Meadow'

- Ruislip: Broad-bodied Chaser just emerged
Late afternoon after rain shower, female Broad-bodied Chaser resting on grass by a small pond on heathland at Poors field, Ruislip Lido.
First record submitted, was able to take photos.

Large hawker-type species observed on roadside as passing viewpoint above Gairloch Highland. Slightly smaller size than emperor but with typical hawker-like flight, flying low over the vegetation. Unable to locate once stopped. Weather was sunny 11C with a north north easterly wind about 10 miles per hour.
Today at Tyttenhanger Gravel Pits were my first sightings of a Blue Tailed Damselfly (m) and 2 Banded Demoiselles (1m and 1f).
Also seen were 4 Large Red Damselflies (m).
- 12th May Buckinghamshire
I photographed a single Four-spotted Chaser which had emerged from one of a series of small ponds in south-west Milton Keynes. Nearby were several Azure Damselflies, which I first saw on 9 May and a few Large Red Damselflies, which I first noticed on 6 May. Also today on the banks of the River Ouzel were five male Banded Demoiselles.

Good numbers of species on the wing today: 131 Blue-tailed Damselfly, 6 Large-red Damselfly, 529 Azure Damselfly, 448 Common-blue Damselfly, 8 Red-eyed Damselfly and finally 7 Hairy Dragonfly. All the latter 4 species being personal 'first' records for the year.
- Great Wakering. 10 Blue-tailed, 20+ Azure and 7 Red-eyed Damselflies including a full male.
Found my first Keeled Skimmer of the year at Holt Lowes. Also a Broad bodied Chaser cop plus 2 singles. There were 2 Four Spotted Chasers round the Woodland pond and later, to our delight, one landed on the garden fence outside Cookies Cafe in Salthouse as we had supper.
Holme Fen – two hairy dragonflies, one male and one female.
Woodwalton Fen – scarce chasers, broad bodied chaser, large red damselfly, azure (lots) and variable (one) damselflies.
- first large red damselfly in my pond in South East London
13.30 on Saturday 10th May – first large red damselfly seen flying (and settling) near my pond (car size) in Beckenham BR3. Hopefully the first of many!
