Thursley National Nature Reserve Support Fund
03/11/2020
The Elstead and Thursley Parish Councils have jumped to the aid of Thursley Nature Reserve by launching a GoFundMe page to help support relief work after a fire ravaged the site in May 2020.
Thursley was designated a Dragonfly Hotspot by the BDS in 2019 in recognition of the site’s value both as a home for rare species, such as Brilliant Emerald, and the opportunities it offers visitors to learn about dragonflies in peatland habitats. To our great horror the spring fire caused substantial damage to the site’s wonderful dragonfly boardwalk, as well as the surrounding habitats.
As a popular walking site, the incident touched the hearts of many people within the local community. As a result, the Preserve Our Reserve campaign was launched to help support restoration efforts and make the site safe for visitors once again.
