Have you made an interesting dragonfly observation over the summer that you would like to discuss? Do you want to start your own dragonfly research project? Or, maybe there is a topic relating to dragonfly conservation that you would like to debate?
The Why? Group is the British Dragonfly Society’s Dragonfly Discussion Group, a place where dragonfly enthusiasts and experts can share their observations, and knowledge, regarding the ecology and conservation of dragonflies and their habitats.
This month we’ve been discussing the factors influencing Willow Emerald Damselfly oviposition site selection. Over the autumn, BDS recorders have reported observing this species egg laying on a variety of plant species, including nettles and brambles. This has raised the question: does plant species determine Willow Emerald Damselfly's site selection, and do other environmental factors (such as temperature, light availability, and the site’s distance from water) have an influence as well?
