International Congress on Odonatology
On Tuesday 18th July we were priviledged to welcome 75 delegates from the International Congress on Odonatology. They viewed the Centre first with many taking photographs of each other under our Dragonfly Centre sign above the door. Then, after a brief talk about the one hundred year Wicken Vision project from Martin Lester of the National Trust, they were divided into smaller groups for a walk around the fen.
BDS volunteers led each group and tried hard to find dragonflies to show the delegates, but few species were cooperating. We did manage to find an elderly female Scarce Chaser though, as well as Red-eyed, Blue-tailed and Azure Damselflies. Of the larger species, Henry Curry cleverly announced “we usually find Southern Hawker here” just as one appeared on cue.
