Wicken Fen in Cambridgeshire, one of Europe’s most important wetlands, supports an abundance of wildlife. There are more than 9000 species, including a spectacular array of plants, birds and, of course, dragonflies. The raised boardwalk and lush grass droves allow easy access to a lost landscape of flowering meadows, sedge and reedbeds. The site had an ambitious 100 year landscape-scale conservation project, Wicken Fen Vision, to create a diverse landscape for wildlife and people stretching from Wicken Fen to the edge of Cambridge.
This year marks 125 years of Wicken Fen and we are so excited to be continuing our partnership with the National Trust and officially naming the site as a Dragonfly Hotspot.

Join us in celebrating the dragonflies of Wicken Fen National Nature Reserve. Activities will include:

Pond dipping events (bookable online) to discover the watery world of the dragonfly

Free Dragonfly crafts in the Family Discovery Area, from 11am until 3pm

Pick up spotter sheets from the Visitors Centre to help you get to know the dragonflies of Wicken Fen

Walks guided by experts from the British Dragonfly Society leaving from the Visitors Centre at 11:30am and 2pm (drop in)

Our brand new team of Wildlife guides will be on site at the best places for dragonfly spotting to help visitors spot them and find out more about their lives and habitats

Boat trips- look out for dragonflies skimming across the Wicken Lode waterway in the Mayfly (booking in advance advised) telephone 01353 720274 for booking
