Caerlaverock is a hot-spot for a variety of damselflies and dragonflies, join us to find and learn more about these fascinating creatures.

We will walk down the avenues, through the wildflower meadow and out to the River Lochar.

Experts from the British Dragonfly Society will be on hand to help as we use nets and ID guides to catch and identify them. Species to look for include Common darter, Four spotted chaser, Emperor dragonfly, Banded demoiselle, Blue tailed damselfly and Azure damselfly. There shall also be some pond dipping in the paddock ponds to find some dragonfly larvae.

It is hoped that this event will also be an introduction if any participants would be interested in pursuing a volunteer opportunity to help monitor the populations of damsel & dragonfly around our reserve.
