Dragonflies of Fobney Island, Reading

Come and explore this wetland reserve on the edge of Reading. Created in 2011, it has attracted 17 species of dragonflies and damselflies, including Small Red-eyed Damselfly, Black-tailed Skimmer, Hairy Dragonfly and Beautiful Demoiselle. This walk is part of the Wild About Reading programme of events.

- The walk will be on a mix of gravel grassy paths. Please wear stout footwear and appropriate clothing – hopefully it will be sunny! Close-focus binoculars will also be useful. If you may require access for wheelchairs or buggies, please contact the organiser.
- Meet in the small car park off Island Road (opposite the Reading recycling centre) SU705709. Please note that parking space is very limited, so try to use public transport if at all possible. Getting there by public transport: Reading Buses 6 or 7 from central Reading to Whitley Park School, then walk through the Kennet Island development, across the A33 and along Island Road (approx 20 mins walk). Alternatively take the Greenwave bus from Reading or Mereoak Park&Ride to Kennet island, then walk across the A33 and along Island Road (approx 12 mins walk).
