Dragonfly survey in Dragonfly Week 2021 at the start of the the National Trust’s Wider Valewood project, introducing European Beaver (yes, they’ve arrived!) to the Valewood site as “ecosystem engineers”.
Valewood is part of the Black Down, managed by the National Trust. This visit is intended as the first of a series to improve the baseline counts of dragonflies and other insects during this exciting habitat improvement project by NT South Downs team. We encourage HSBG members and associates to revisit several times during the summer through the coming years to assess the hoped-for increases in both the number of species and their abundances.

There are several ways to report a Dragonfly sighting:
Report a casual sighting or visit to a site, for the benefit of others who might wish to know what’s flying at the moment. These sightings are not vetted and are not automatically treated as scientific records.
