    Dunyeats Hill pond (ARC). 6 Emperor Dragonfly exuviae, 3 with pre-flight emergents - wings spread but not ready to fly. Seen at 17:00, these must have emerged around mid day.

    May 11th. Saw my first Scarce Chasers (5) of the season on the river Chelmer,near Maldon Golf club, Langford, Essex. This must be around 3 weeks earlier than when i usually start seeing them emerge at this site.

    Hairy Dragonfly breeding in Berkshire. Given the number of sightings around the county this spring, it was only a matter of time before Hairy Dragonfly was recorded as breeding in Berkshire for the first time. I found a male flying around one of the lakes at Thames Valley Park at lunchtime today and then spotted the female ovipositing in a part-submerged stem.Also about 15 Four-spotted Chasers, an Emperor and a couple of Downy Emeralds as well as 60+ Azure Damselfly around the various lakes on the site.

    Today, at Swinley Brick Pits, between Bracknell and Ascot, there was a single male Brilliant Emerald, two (possibly three) male Hairy Dragonfly, 7 Downy Emerald, plus Four-spotted Chasers and Large Red and Azure Damsels.

    Tues 10th May I saw a female or immature male Black-tailed Skimmer sitting on the boardwalk at Hickling NWT Reserve.  TG42361BNG21838. It was a very hot and sheltered location surrounded by reed bed and accompanied by a Swallowtail butterfly and a hairy dragonfly.

    Radley Gravel Pits.     Four spot chasers in north Suffolk. Five four spot chasers Libellula quadrimaculata seen this am at Wenhaston north Suffolk. Patrolling along dykes in meadows - probably been out for some days as well developed colouration and showing territorial behaviour.

    Woodwalton Fen, Cambridgeshire. A first time visit today to this superb site saw the following being seen: 8 Four-spot Chaser, 41 Azure Damselfly, 6 Variable Damselfly, 6 Blue-tailed damselfly, 10 Red-eyed Damselfly, 4 Large-red Damselfly, 3 Hairy Dragonfly and finally the target species, 18 Scarce Chaser

    White-legged Damselfly on a still-water site. I visited Tockenham Reservoir, near Wootton Bassett on my way home today and, as well as Azure, Blue-tailed and Red-eyed Damselflies, I found 3 emergent female and 1 teneral male White-legged Damselflies on the margin of the lake! Other than the reservoir itself the only other breeding area may be the very small feeder stream to the lake which has a silty/sandy bed. This is a new site and constitutes the 12th new species for Wiltshire this year...

    Bartley Wood, Hook, Hampshire. 6 May 2011 Circa 13:00hrs 5+ Male 1x Female Broad Bodied Chaser, 15+(2 pairs in Tandem) Common Blue Damsels, 4 Male Blue Tailed Damsels and 3 Large Red Damsels sighted at Bartley Wood.  Site a bit slow starting this year, First sighting of Large Red at site 3 May 2011, 2 weeks later than previous year and numbers releativly low at present.

    Large Red Damselflies and a lone male Broad-Bodied Chaser, Newport, South Wales. Many large red damselflies are now emerging from my wildlife pond. Today I recorded my first dragonfly sighting of the year. A male broad-bodied chaser flew a few passes over the pond and briefly settled on a perching post before flying off.

    Seven species at Cossington Meadows Nature Reserve, Leics, including Vagrant Emperor. Cossington Meadows Nature Reserve: 1 Vagrant Emperor flying about. It didn't stop for a photo, but it was recognised from frequent sightings in the Emirates earlier this year. Also 1 Broad Bodied Chaser, 7 Large Red Damselflies, 3 Azure damselflies, 3 Blue tailed damselflies, approximately 50 Red eyed Damselflies, and over 200 Banded Demoiselles. There was also one large terrapin in the River Soar there - about 40cm long! It was perched on a branch with some mallards. It was a lovely warm afternoon, and a real treat to see so many Odonata.

    Lots of many species in Wat Tyler CP. Damselflies and dragonflies numerous today as they have been the last few days.  2 hairy hawkers flying around hawthorn scrub away from the water, at least 5 male broad bodied chasers patrolling various ponds and basking on hedgerows and 1 mating wheel witnessed.  5 large red damselfly pairs oviposting in a 50cm stretch of blanket weed along with one pair of azure damselflies, with individuals of each species seen around the park also.  A four spotted chaser was also glimpsed along with many indet. teneral damseflies moving around.  Photos here: http://my.opera.com/Ukwildlife/blog/whitethroats-large-red-damselflies-b...

    New Wiltshire Location for Beautiful Demoiselle. After a sighting of Golden-ringed Dragonfly on the River Marden just outside Calne last year [by Rob Turner] I decided to give it the once over in case Beautiful Demoiselle were there as well. Sure enough my hunch paid off. During a short lunch time foray I found 5 males and 9 females in a short stretch of herbage adjacent to the river. All were semi mature and so had been out for a few days at least A new location and the first record for the year!

    Sightings Cosmeston Lakes nr Penarth  Glamorgan. Friday 6th May a glorious afternoon from mid day  to 4pm  sighted 12 Four spotted chasers  two pairs in copulating wheel and one female ovipositing, 8 Hairy Dragonflies one pair in copulating wheel and two ovipositing females,   60 + Large red Damselflies many in copulating wheel and ovipositing, 100 + Blue tailed Damselfly again many in copulating wheels  and ovipositing  all observed at the top Dragonfly pond this is a secluded spot in a dip protected from wind  allthough this pond has seen lots of activity the last few weeks the rest of the site large lakes is quiet a few  Large Reds about the wood lands.The day before at the same pond took a quick snap of a dragonfly in flight and is sub standed and sent it on for further annalasis may be either Vagrant Emporer or Lesser Emporer (5th May) was not seen at the same location on the 6th  Grid Ref ST172694.

    Monken Hadley Common (approx. TQ252973): a brief between 1.15 - 2.30 p.m. visit to this small pond produced 3 Broad-bodied Chasers (2 males & 1 female), 1 Four-spotted Chaser, 10+ Large Red Damselflies and 2 Blue-tailed Damselflies.
