2 pm 4th July at Slattadale on Loch Maree, Wester Ross. Weather rainy, with glimmers of sun. There is forestry work cutting trees beside the stream north of car park, and in theory the path is diverted, but is not blocked. When the sun came out, several Azure Hawkers patrolled the stream, and settled on a tree stump and rocks. Also present Common Hawker overhead.

A case of third time lucky in my quest for White-legged Damselflies on the River Stour this week! With Richard and Jean Attenborrow, we found five at Langham, north of Low Lift Cottages at TM025345, best viewed east of the footpath south of the river in the fishing area. Also male Scarce Chaser, Hairy Dragonfly, several Red-eyed Damselflies and my first Brown Hawker of 2016.  A little further west, at Wormingford, we parked by the pumping station in Bowdens Lane, TL940334 and headed down to the river then west on the mown permissive path.  15 White-legged Damselflies here, including several pairs in tandem with the females ovipositing.  Also three male Scarce Chaser, a Four-spotted Chaser and another Brown Hawker. Had never been to either site before, but found them by talking to local dog walkers about the best places to access the river!
